Prayer O Pilgrim
Lyrics
Prayer, O Pilgrim Prayer, O lonely traveller The echo of just men; Strangers and exiles on the earth, Follow the footprints, Go where the witnesses have gone. Your God is before you- El-Shama: He hears you. Prayer in weakness, Prayer when flesh and friends may fail. When misery bends you, And groaning becomes your melody. Remember the garden, Where your Saviour travailed in agony. Your God is before you- El-Sali: He bears you. Prayer in waiting, Prayer when heaven holds your rain. In weeping and watching – The sorrow of harvest that delays. Hope is an anchor; Wait for the laughter of the Lord. Your God is before you- El-Nacham: He soothes you. Prayer in battle, Prayer when raiders lie in wait. If hell should encamp you, If legions connive to do you harm; The Lord is your fortress; No weapon against you shall prevail. Your God is before you- El-Ma’oz: He hides you. Prayer in victory, Prayer when all the answers come. When chariot and rider, Are drowned in the triumph of your God. Praise Him in earnest! Forsake not the One who did you good. Your God is before you- Eliezer; He helps you. Prayer, O pilgrim! Prayer, O feeble mortal man. The journey before you, Is taking you paths you’ve never walked. So, tarry in prayers; Quench not the Voice that bids you come. Your God is before you- El-Qara: He calls you.
